This year, my reason for giving to The Hive through Midlands Gives is different. It’s the first year my mom won’t be calling to remind me to make her donation. She asked about it even in January—because she believed in our work. Not just because I’m her daughter, but because she knew firsthand the pain and the power of healing. When I told her at the age of 28 I’d been sexually abused as a child, she wept—as if it had just happened—and held space for me with fierce, unwavering love. That love—and the values she passed on—are the reason The Hive exists. It’s why we stay. Her legacy lives in every survivor we serve, every moment of hope we offer. This year, I’m asking you to give not on my behalf, but in honor of Eather, my mom. Her legacy is in every circle, every breakthrough, every survivor who now knows that joy is not earned through suffering—it’s a birthright. Sow a seed in her name. Let her love through hope live on.
