Fundraiser Story

My Journey As A Cancer Survivor: The Power of Sharing Cancer has changed my life forever. It has taken many of my family members from me. It took my grandmother, Allie Mae Holley, my brother-in-law, Nathaniel Pondexter, and my dad, Elmer L. Newby. And now it has come for me too. But today, I stand here cancer-free for a year, sharing my story hoping that it will inspire, support, create awareness, and save lives. My dad meant a lot to me. When he was diagnosed with prostate cancer a few years ago, he fought bravely, but eventually, the disease took his life. Losing him left a hole in my heart. Not long after my father's death, I found myself facing my own cancer diagnosis, with bladder cancer. It felt surreal, but I knew I had to fight this disease, for the memory of my dad and my other family members. I'm glad to say I'm a cancer survivor and have been cancer-free for a year, thanks to God, my wife Mary, and support from family and friends. I support Cancer of many Colors, because of their powerful mission to ease the financial burden on cancer patients by covering basic living expenses during treatment. Let's keep fighting together!!!
