Fundraiser Story

Skyla Forcier was a sweet, spunky, goofy, 5yr old when she was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia in 2013. She is the 3rd child in a family of 4 siblings. We were terrified when Skyla got diagnosed and had no clue what was coming our way. We are so thankful for all the staff at the Greenville

hospital for their love in taking care of her. One week into her diagnosis, we heard a knock on the door and were immediately greeted by Tracey and another Happy Wheels volunteer. They had this big cart full of fun stuff. Skyla's eyes were huge and she was so excited looking at the cart. Then she was told she could pick anything she wanted! She was so happy with her gift that day and all of the gifts she received from Happy Wheels during her many hospital stays. She knew what days Happy Wheels was coming and couldn't wait to see Tracey and the volunteers with the cart. She finished her treatment after 2.5 years. Only 6 short months later, she relapsed with another cancer - AML. She was taken to MUSC in Charleston for a bone marrow transplant. We were so happy also to see that Happy Wheels also served that hospital! It's so good for these kids and amazing that Happy Wheels is able to provide for the different hospitals in different areas of the state. It provided a much-needed distraction to what was going on in her life in those rooms fighting cancer. The games and books and toys she got helped her and our family get through the long days of being inpatient. Skyla battled her second cancer of AML for 10 months and then won her battle when she passed and went to be with Jesus on October 25, 2016 at only 8 years old. We will forever be thankful for Tracey and Happy Wheels, for the joy and smiles they brought to Skyla and our family. We will always remember their kindness.
