Fundraiser Story

Happy wheels has been a part of my life for many years. As a nurse on the oncology floor Happy Wheels began to visit weekly.  Even as the nurse I LOVED Happy Wheels day!  I remember being able to remind kids on the days the cart was coming that it was Happy Wheels day and what joy that brought. The toys and books on the cart are much more than just a toy or book. They represent a comforting animal during a difficult dressing change, a game to play when you can't get out of bed, a new bedtime story for those overnight stays, a craft to pass them time during lengthy admissions. I never dreamed as a young nurse that one day my own child would need care at the very hospital and very unit I once worked in. Hospital days can often be long and filled with difficult news and decisions so small, generous acts mean so much. Even though our daughter Ruby was only with us for a short time on earth we strongly believe that God calls us to use the hard things for good and to give back to our community. Now that our other two children are a little older, we are blessed to be able to support Happy Wheels while teaching them the importance of giving on a platform that they understand!  We support Happy Wheels because they are a shining example of how many small gestures can make a mighty impact during difficult times!
