Glenforest School is a K-12 independent non-profit day school. We provide high quality instruction to increase the academic skills and social competence of students with learning differences. Highly trained educators build meaningful relationships with students and provide relevant and rigorous content to ensure that students are prepared to accomplish their post-secondary goals. Student learning is enhanced through the provision of specially designed instruction with needs being met through the delivery of individualized accommodations and modifications. Students increase their social competence through social skills instruction, co-curricular activities and service learning. Partnerships with families are an essential component in creating a healthy and safe learning environment for all students at Glenforest.

"Our daughter struggled in public school. They labeled her a "behavior child." Despite trying repeatedly to get her in a special classroom or get some sort of assistance, I was constantly told this was a behavior issue. She had no friends. Our very intelligent girl was getting left behind both socially and academically. I called Glenforest. They were POSITIVE when I talked to them. They had seen many children like her, and they made me feel like I wasn't alone, that I wasn't a failure as a parent. It wasn't a disciplinary issue. It was an issue of providing her an environment where she could flourish. A small class with experienced special needs teachers. Her confidence skyrocketed. Her "behavior issues" reduced dramatically. She was never sent home or suspended. She responded amazingly to the positive feedback. When she had a bad day, they handled it. She has expressed gratitude to me for letting her go to Glenforest. She once told me when she was in public school that she wished she was dead and that no one, not even the teachers, understood her. "We have a very bright student, but was on the bad behavior track in his old school district because he would cope poorly with being overwhelmed by lots of other students and having to switch gears unexpectedly. We chose Glenforest because the focus for the students is to return to task, not sit them out for days at a time with suspensions. At Glenforest, he is making better choices in every area, he is returning to task when he does mess up, his grades are steady & reflecting his intelligence and he is making practical, post high school plans. "Our son Tanner was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism, Nonverbal Learning Disorder, & Sensory Integration Dysfunction at age 4. The years that followed were full of ABA in-home therapy, OT, chiropractic, dietary & biomedical intervention, just to name a few of the interventions we tried. Finding the right schooling option was incredibly hard. We attended two small private schools & home-schooled twice, but we knew Tanner was not getting the best experience possible. Making the decision to come to Glenforest was difficult, as we live in another community. I am so glad we did, though, because it is one of the best decisions we ever made for Tanner. At GF, Tanner has had the opportunity to switch classes & have a very typical high school experience, while still receiving a modified curriculum. The staff at GF are nothing short of angels. The energy, love, & dedication they pour into the kids daily amazes me. It is truly a gifted calling to be a teacher to kids who learn differently, & I am so thankful for these special people. Tanner has also had the opportunity to participate in a team sort, Cross Country, which would've been impossible in a regular school setting. This sport has had an invaluable positive impact on his life, & helped him to develop a lifelong healthy habit: running. The opportunity to contribute to a team & be coached is so important for all kids & has been such a blessing to him.I would encourage any parent of a child who is not thriving in a typical setting to consider Glenforest School. Knowing that your child is loved, nurtured, & treated as the unique & special person he or she is provides the peace of mind to carry parents through the tough times.
