Allison Loves Happy Wheels!

In January 2025, I was given the honor of joining the Happy Wheels team as a volunteer. For those of you that are not familiar with Happy Wheels, we roll carts containing brand new books and toys at the Children's Hospitals every Monday and Tuesday of the year. On Mondays, children that are inpatient at the hospital are greeted with our smiling faces and are allowed to pick out one item from the cart that they can take home with them. On Tuesdays, the cart is rolled to the outpatient clinic where the children who are receiving outpatient treatment are allowed to pick out one item that they can take home as well. To be able to bring a smile to a child's face through this organization means the world to me. "A child's smile, when reaching to pick out a gift, is all the reward the participating volunteers seek." One day, each week throughout the year, Happy Wheels volunteers make rounds to each inpatient room with a decorated surgical cart filled with brand new books and toys. Happy Wheels visits approximately 400 children weekly at all 3 children's hospitals in South Carolina. Each child gets to pick out one toy/book of their choice every week for the duration of their admission. They get to keep the gifts and take them home!
