The B Strong Group

Our mission is to spread awareness of sickle cell disease, to advocate for our sickle cell warriors and to listen to our warrior's and caregivers' stories. This is to be done through education, volunteering and engaging with our community.

Our founders are living - first hand- life of parents of a child with sickle cell disease. Because of their experiences, we are impacting the community by educating people about the disease, highlighting the needs of our sickle cell community (blood donations, support group needs, hospital support needs) and assisting other organizations that help those affected by sickle cell disease. Our organization has partnered with the American Red Cross and have hosted over12 blood drives since 2018 with 4 blood drives scheduled for 2023. Our first blood drive in 2018 generated over 30 units of blood and garnered 8 first-time blood donors who have since become regular blood donors. To help highlight our sickle cell community, The B Strong Group utilizes social media to profile sickle cell warriors, broadcast the importance of a diversified blood supply and celebrate good news with the larger community.

Our founder's son, Braden, has had numerous ER visits and hospitalizations during his young 18 years of life. With sickle cell disease, sometimes he needs medical attention to help him get better. In 2015 he was diagnosed with acute chest syndrome, the leading cause of death in those with sickle cell disease. Braden spent time in the PICU where he received a blood transfusion which helped to save his life. This was a terrifying experience for the family but it empowered them with more determination to spread awareness of sickle cell disease and the critical need of blood donations.

In the short period since The B Strong Group's formation, we have met countless people who have or know someone with sickle cell disease. All of them have thanked us for our support in spreading awareness. Conversely, we have also met many people who knew very little about the disease but were inspired by our founding family's experience and began to support our cause.
