Yew Belong Community Services, Inc. was established in 2023 in the Midlands, SC to address the disparity in specialized mental health services for members of the LGBTQIAP+ community, particularly following the passing of legislation that permits providers to deny services when in conflict with their own moral/religious beliefs. Yew Belong was formed from a group of professionals dedicated to creating a safe space to heal from the intrapersonal, interpersonal, and systemic wounds that interfere with them building a life in which they thrive. Since our doors opened on June 2, 2023, we have collaborated with other local organizations to provide clinical outreach, education, and support for their missions. Extending our interventions outside of the counseling office, our clinical team members have provided individual, group, and family therapy to many in our immediate community and across rural South Carolina virtually and in person. We have provided clinical outreach activities intended to support the development of interpersonal effectiveness and emotion regulation skills.
