Our mission is to identify, interpret, curate, exhibit, commemorate, and display the role of the South Carolina events during the 1950-1970 years of the civil rights movement. Currently, we have the largest collection of artifacts, photographs and documents of South Carolina civil rights events in existence.

Presently, our efforts are two-fold: we are providing to the citizens of this state and others, the only civil rights museum in South Carolina. Our second major focus is in creating and preserving stories and images that enable us to embellish our civil rights movement era stories.

Testimonials

In the midlands and elsewhere, we have distributed over 6,000 posters to school age children. Each of the posters depict a specific South Carolina related event or individual that impacted our civil rights pioneering. Rather than just place these posters in resource areas at schools, we make them available directly to students.

Also, since 2019, over 45,000 have visited our museum in Orangeburg where we have over 35 exhibits available for viewing and exploration.
