The mission of the Suzuki Academy of Columbia & USC is to enrich the lives of children through studying a musical instrument from an early age in order to develop positive character traits such as discipline, focus, confidence, cooperation, respect, and sensitivity.

The Suzuki Academy of Columbia is a community music program that uses the Suzuki Method and Philosophy to instruct children as young as three years old on the violin, viola, cello, and classical guitar. We now offer music classes for babies and toddlers as well.

Our students are enrolled in weekly privately lessons, where they are provided with one-one-one instruction to learn new skills and refine those already learned. They are also enrolled in weekly group class lessons which provide the students opportunities for repertoire review, skills review, and learning ensemble skills. The Suzuki Academy has nine teachers - all of whom have acquired specialized training in the Suzuki Method alongside their traditional studies in music. Students at the Suzuki Academy perform regularly in the Columbia community and at the USC School of Music.

In addition, the Suzuki Academy is partnered with the Master of Music in Violin/Viola Pedagogy at USC's School of Music. Within this degree program, university students have the opportunity to study Suzuki Method Pedagogy and observe and teach in a working Suzuki Method program.

Testimonials

"I would definitely recommend Suzuki for anyone who wants their child to learn music. There are so many benefits including: learning how to work as a group, becoming confident in front of others, and being responsible for their practicing."
- Bethany, Suzuki Academy Parent
