The purpose of Sumter Senior Services is to foster independence and enhance the well-being of older adults by providing opportunities for physical, mental, and emotional wellness that support independence and enrich their quality of life.

Sumter Senior Services is a private, nonprofit organization whose guiding philosophy is that we have an obligation to assist residents who spent their working years building our community by providing programs and services that help them live a dignified life in a home setting for as long as possible. To that end, we design and deliver quality programs/services which improve the quality of life for Sumter County residents 60 years and older.

These programs include home-delivered meals, transportation with escort to medical appointments, group dining programs, health/wellness and fitness programs, arts, crafts, and recreational activities in senior centers, as well as access to computer labs and literacy programs.

Testimonials

Sumter Senior Services served 102,740 home-delivered meals to senior citizens from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024. These meals provided much-needed nutrition to more than 410 seniors in Sumter County.

In addition to the nutritional value of the meals, according to Mr. Allen, a daily meal recipient, the daily contact with his delivery driver, who he describes as "bright and cheerful," brings joy to his day. Additionally, 67% of our drivers are seniors.
