Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community

About this Organization

Still Hopes is a not-for-profit midlands retirement community offering a continuum of living that includes independent apartment and cottage based living, rehab, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and in-home care through Solutions for Living at Home.

Still Hopes was founded by one of South Carolina's first female physicians, Jane Bruce Guignard, MD. Dr. Guignard was instrumental in the development of obstetric care in the midlands. She also established a training program for black midwives. Upon her passing, Jane Bruce Guignard left her family home and land, located in West Columbia, to the Episcopal Upper Diocese to be used as a retirement home for women. Her original vision was health and wellness for all, which remains a guiding principle at Still Hopes.

Continuing to serve and innovate, Still Hopes is in its 49th year. We employ over 700 people to support over 400 on-campus residents and over 65 clients who are aging in place.

Still Hopes has been named the Midlands Best Retirement Community for several years, has been ranked in the top 25 senior living communities in the western hemisphere for Best In Wellness, and has received U.S. News & World Report's highest rating for best nursing homes.

Donations made to our Midlands Gives campaign will be used to build the Still Hopes Opportunity Fund. The Opportunity Fund is a CEO and CFO approved fund that enables Still Hopes to investigate and implement mission and vision-driven opportunities that will improve the quality of living of our residents and clients and illuminate a new expectation for senior living.
