Serve & Connect was born from tragedy but fueled by hope, love, and empathy. On September 30, 2015, Officer Greg Alia of the Forest Acres Police Department was killed in the line of duty, leaving behind his wife, Kassy, and their newborn son. In the wake of unimaginable loss, Kassy chose to respond not with anger, but with action-seeking to bridge divides and foster trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. Her journey of healing and understanding led her to see the power of connection and the urgent need for a different approach-one rooted in empathy, collaboration, and shared humanity.
From this recognition, Serve & Connect was founded to unite police and community partners in pursuit of a common goal: stronger, safer neighborhoods where families can thrive. S&C believes that when officers and residents work together, they have the power to break cycles of heartbreak and build a foundation for healing and hope. By fostering trust and collaboration, Serve & Connect paves the way for a future where compassion overcomes division, and communities are not just protected, but truly connected.
We envision a future where police and citizens work together as one.
The Columbia Police Department was our very first Greg's Groceries partner in 2017. Over the years, we have been honored to work alongside them, supporting their efforts to keep our communities safe. Their hard work is paying off: In 2024, Columbia, saw more than a 40% DECREASE in fatal and non-fatal shootings. In recognition, they received the Santee Cooper Excellence in Law Enforcement Award. In their nomination, they cited our partnership as one of the contributors to their success.
