The South Carolina Council on Economic Education, dba SC Economics, is South Carolina’s only nonprofit solely dedicated to equipping K–12 teachers with the tools, training, and confidence to bring economics and personal finance to life in their classrooms.
Since 1975, we’ve worked toward a bold but essential goal: ensuring every South Carolina student graduates with the knowledge and skills to make smart financial decisions, understand how our economy works, and build a more secure future for themselves and their communities.
We believe the most powerful way to impact students is by empowering their teachers. When teachers are confident and well-equipped, they transform complex economic concepts into meaningful, real-world lessons that stick with students for life.
That’s why SC Economics provides thousands of free, high-quality resources, including workshops, lesson plans, videos, and one-on-one support, at no cost to educators. Our professional development is led by expert professors and experienced educators who specialize in hands-on, activity-based learning that makes economics and personal finance engaging, relevant, and fun.
Every workshop we deliver, every resource we create, and every teacher we support helps shape a generation of financially capable, economically informed South Carolinians.
"Training like today and the support SC Economics provides teachers helps to prepare our future generations to be productive citizens in the future. Economic education is vital to our students and their future."
"SC Economic Council uses the resources they are given to make a huge impact on teachers' ability to teach economics in a hands-on way."
"This is a great program that every teacher should be a part of. There are so many resources that can be made available to help our teachers teach our students about finances."
"This workshop gave me a wealth of practical and engaging ideas to integrate economics into my lessons. I appreciate receiving a copy of the resources we learned about. Hearing the Q and A with the panel was very helpful to better understand community needs (and the needs of many of our students' families) and also to hear about the various career opportunities for people with different backgrounds and education."
"This organization puts forth great effort in valuing the teacher. The team is a group of superb, warm, caring individuals who treat the teachers with the utmost respect. It is a true pleasure attending their events; I wish there were so many more!"
"Every educator should take a workshop like this. Incredibly beneficial to sit in a classroom with fellow educators and dive into these topics."
"SC Economics puts on the best professional development for teachers. They are at the top of the class."
