ALS Association, South Carolina Chapter

A nonprofit organization

To support people living with ALS in SC and their loved ones through services and education. To discover treatments and a cure, to serve, advocate and empower people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest.

Our Durable Medical Equipment Loan Program is a signature feature and service that we offer to the patients we serve. Keeping this loan program viable is critical to making a difference for families, especially related to patient mobility.

A power wheelchair may cost an unfunded ALS patient anywhere from $25,000-$50,000, depending on the features included. Through our Durable Medical Equipment Loan Closet program, The SC ALS Association's Care Service staff was able to provide a power chair at no cost to an unfunded patient residing in a skilled nursing facility who would have been otherwise unable to obtain said equipment. Prior to receiving the chair, the patient was bedbound. The DME Loan Closet program was not only a cost benefit to this patient, but a significant enhancement to his quality of life.

Testimonials

My name is Tiffany Redmond. My husband, Larry T. Redmond, was diagnosed with ALS in after nearly two years suffering symptoms. I spent 8 years as his caregiver before he won his battle over the disease going to his heavenly home. In those 8 years, it was Larry's mission to share the goodness, live life to the fullest, share his journey with ALS, and advocate for those fighting the disease. Being associated with the ALS Association SC Chapter helped us continue his fight by supporting and guiding us. It is important for those with ALS, and those that care for them, to know that they are not alone. The support that the ALS Association South Carolina Chapter provides is immeasurable. I am thankful.
