Saving Sumter's Strays

A nonprofit organization

Our Mission is to save dogs from the high kill open intake shelter (Sumter County Animal Control) by providing some vetting, and rescue placement. We have many heart worm positive dogs who need treatments before they can go to a rescue or adopter.

We are a non profit mostly volunteer organization whose sole purpose is to save dogs from the open intake Sumter County Animal Control shelter. We are a no kill rescue. We have a small facility where we house animals while they receive their vetting they need before going to rescue or being adopted. Our volunteers provide the care given to the animals at SSS.

Testimonials

Last year, 2024, Saving Sumter Strays saved over 266 dogs from euthanasia in Sumter County. Our new adoption center has allowed us to increase our adoption rate by over 100%! We also now have a mobile vet that comes to our building to help facilitate all our vetting needs. We have been able to build 2 out door pens for the dogs to get exercise.
