The Mission of the Samaritan House is: 1) to provide a safe place for individuals and families who are homeless 2) to assist residents in obtaining more stable housing 3) to assist residents in increasing their personal and professional skills and income, and 4) to ultimately achieve greater self-sufficiency. Ultimately, we see ourselves as more than a Homeless Shelter. We are a resource provider to men, women, and their children who are homeless. Motto: "Changing Lives...Helping People"

The purpose of the organization is to provide temporary housing and stabilization services to the homeless (men, women, and their children). Services include but are not limited to, personal and professional development, vocational development, interpersonal skills development, community involvement, independent living preparation, educational assistance, health care, financial literacy, and spiritual enrichment. The ultimate goal is to provide stabilization services that support and guide residents to obtain stable housing and achieve greater self-sufficiency. We have developed collaborative relationships with service agencies to include Vocational Rehab, Job Service, DSS, Alcohol & Drug, Mental Health, Orangeburg Calhoun Tech., Free Medical Clinic, Hope Health Clinic, Habitat for Humanity, and Legal Aid who will provide on-site and off-site services for our residents. Our collaborative goal is self-sufficiency and housing stabilization.
TSH is the ONLY shelter in the Tri-County of Orangeburg, Bamberg, and Calhoun counties that provides shelter to the homeless. We have a 55-bed capacity (24 women and 31 men capacity). We accept adult men, women and their children.

Testimonials

Since reopening in 2020, we have hired 10 former homeless residents of TSH into full time and part-time positions; assisted 100 residents to obtain housing vouchers and/or housing relocation assistance. Over 200 others have secured sustainable housing with families, in apartments, or other residential settings. Over 150 residents gained meaningful employment, 175 received job placement counseling, 25 graduated with a certificate from the Back to Work Program; 85 received medical coverage.
