Selden K Smith Holocaust Education Foundation

A nonprofit organization

Our mission is to provide funding for support of Holocaust educational activities in South Carolina. Grants are provided for programs and activities on the Holocaust to strengthen memory, history and education as well as related issues of international conflict, genocide, prejudice, intolerance and bullying. Funding is provided to schools, colleges, churches, synagogues, civic groups and individuals. Projects include classroom supplies, speakers, field trips, teacher training, and exhibits.

Funds raised will go towards grants awarded in South Carolina for Holocaust and tolerance educational activities for students, community awareness programs and teacher training. The Holocaust revealed to the world the terrible tragedy of what hatred and prejudice can do. Isn't it possible that we can learn from the study of history that intolerance and hatred must be fought and attitudes changed in hope that such atrocities will become events of the past, not present or future? Holocaust education has a role to play in our society and in the classroom for democracy, social justice and civic responsibility. The Foundation is working towards this reality. The Foundation is committed to equality regardless of religion, race or gender.

Testimonials

Through our grant program, especially those projects specifically for students, the Foundation continues to assist teachers in educating the youth of South Carolina by teaching the lessons of the Holocaust as a tool in promoting tolerance, equality and justice for everyone.
