Disability Rights South Carolina is a statewide non-profit founded in 1977.  We serve as the federally authorized Protection and Advocacy system (P&A) and Client Assistance Program (CAP) for South Carolina. Our mission is to protect and advance the legal, civil, and human rights of people with disabilities in South Carolina.  Our services are free and confidential. We are independent of state government, and we are not connected to any service providers or facilities. 

Services for People with Disabilities

  • Educate people about their disability rights.
  • Connect people with information and referrals.
  • Investigate abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  • Offer self-advocacy assistance in certain situations.    
  • Provide limited advocacy and legal assistance.

  • Monitor conditions in facilities and institutions.
  • Investigate systemic issues affecting the disability community.
  • Advocate for people with disabilities’ rights to public programs and services.
  • Promote public policy that improves the lives of people with disabilities.
  • Educate lawmakers about how policies impact people with disabilities.
  • Provide training on disability rights.
