Because of Roscoe

Because of Roscoe was born from the love of a dog whose life continues to inspire compassion, advocacy, and action. In his honor, we are a 501(c)(3) grassroots, volunteer-based organization dedicated to improving the lives of community and shelter animals, with an emphasis on Bully Breeds, who are so often overlooked. At our core, we are committed to mending one broken heart at a time.

Because of Roscoe serves as a vital support system for local shelter animals and the surrounding community. Through fundraising, networking, and partnerships with rescues, we help provide critical resources, coordinate transfers, and create opportunities for animals to find safe, loving homes.

Our mission extends beyond the shelter. Through community outreach, we support both dogs and cats living outdoors by providing education, food, and proper housing, meeting people where they are and offering compassionate solutions that keep pets safe and families together. In the past year alone, we have distributed over 10,000 pounds of pet food to families in need, helping ensure that temporary hardship does not lead to permanent separation.

A cornerstone of our work is spay and neuter advocacy. Through our SNIP program, we offer free spay and neuter services to Fairfield County residents, along with low-cost voucher options to expand access. Since launching in September 2023, we have provided 1,302 free spay and neuter surgeries, preventing thousands of unwanted litters and reducing the strain on local shelters. We also host free vaccine and microchip pop-up clinics throughout the year, further strengthening the safety and well-being of pets in our community.

Every life we touch carries Roscoe’s legacy forward. Through unwavering dedication and the support of our community, we are working to build a more compassionate, responsible future for animals, one where every pet is valued, protected, and loved.
