For 50 years, the Sumter Museum has preserved our community’s history, created engaging exhibits, and offered meaningful educational programs that connect people of all ages to our shared past. As we celebrate this golden milestone, we invite you to help us write the next chapter.
The Sumter Museum is more than a single building; it is a vibrant campus dedicated to bringing history to life. Our facilities include the Williams Brice House (1916), the Carolina Backcountry Homestead (1998), the Heritage Education Center (2003), and the Temple Sinai Jewish History Center (2018), with the highly anticipated Sumter Military Museum opening in 2027. Through these spaces, we present rotating exhibits, both curated in-house and traveling, alongside dynamic programming ranging from living history demonstrations and educational workshops to author talks and community events.
Your support of the Build a Home for History campaign directly strengthens our mission to preserve, interpret, and share Sumter’s stories with accuracy, care, and creativity. It ensures that future generations can explore, learn from, and be inspired by the people, places, and events that define our community.
We are deeply grateful for your commitment to local history and cultural preservation. It is the generosity of our supporters, past, present, and future, that allows the Sumter Museum to remain a place where history is not only remembered, but experienced, and where it continues to shape our future.
