$2,500 Goal

To engage, enrich and empower girls to reach their full potential through leadership development, active mentorship and engaging programming.

Founded in 2013 by 3 USC undergrads, Skin I'm In began as a summer project aimed at helping adolescent Black girls develop higher self-esteem and self-awareness. Since its inception we have grown and redirected our mission to take it a step further from not only teaching girls to love the skin they're in but develop them into strong, capable leaders.

Led by a statistic reported by the Girl Scouts, that 53% of adolescent Black girls see themselves as leaders but by the time they reach high school that number has dropped off into the teens. We are committed to developing the next generation of leaders and turning that 53% to 100%, ensuring by the time girls reach high school they are prepared to lead in their schools, communities and beyond.

Active programming and mentorship is the core of our organization's mission and is shaped by our curriculum; a three-prong approach derived from holistic youth development research, leadership development and life skills curriculum, and a girl-guided approach ensuring the effectiveness of programming.
