Senior Resources: The Recipe for Impact
Senior Resources provides coordinated services that promote and empower healthy, independent living through the dedication of staff and volunteers. Every day, we’re mixing the right ingredients to help older adults thrive — from nutritious meals delivered to homebound seniors to programs that spark connection, movement, and purpose.
From Meals on Wheels to the Lourie Center, AmeriCorps Seniors, and beyond, each program is an essential ingredient in our recipe for independence. And when those ingredients come together, that’s where the magic happens.
Mixing the Ingredients for Independence
Since 1967, older adults in Columbia and Richland County have relied on a coordinated blend of services that nourish the body, mind, and spirit.
The recipe includes:
In-Home Services
Meals on Wheels, home care, and Senior Companion support — delivering nutrition, safety, and reassurance directly to the home.
Community-Based Services
Wellness centers, transportation, congregate meals, and the Lourie Center — adding connection, creativity, and movement into daily life.
Volunteer Services
Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent programs — compassionate individuals who serve as a powerful, human ingredient in everything we do.
For nearly 60 years, these ingredients have helped older adults create their own balanced recipe for independence: a steady serving of nutrition, a dash of companionship, a generous portion of purpose.
The result is simple and powerful — more older adults are able to remain in their homes and communities, surrounded by care and connection.
Where the Magic Is in the Mix
Every ingredient matters and every story reflects the impact of a community coming together.
A Senior Companion shared, “Being a part of this program has given my life purpose and meaning.”
A Foster Grandparent said, “This program has enriched my life by seeing the improvement in the children’s lives and the love they have for me.”
A Lunch Bunch participant thanked us for “Supporting the overall well-being of senior citizens.”
A Meals on Wheels volunteer reflected, “A simple meal and a friendly face can brighten someone’s day.”
And at the Lourie Center, one member found healing and strength through art, dance, and friendship... proof that when you mix creativity, connection, and care, something truly special is created.
