Second Chance of Orangeburg Animal Rescue Coalition

At Second Chance of Orangeburg, a volunteer-led organization, our mission is to provide sanctuary, a safe haven for homeless pets and the medical care needed to end their pain and maintain their health. Our rescues are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, tested and, if necessary, receive preventative care or treatment for heartworms . We also build kennels to unchain chained dogs and provide them shelter if needed. We spay and neuter pets for animals that cannot afford the surgery.

Over the past ten years we have adapted our program to meet the greatest needs of our communities. There is a saying that a chained dog is a choked soul. Unchain Orangeburg was developed to end a dogs suffering living at the end off a chain, often without shelter from the elements. Under this program we built good sized kennels for dogs to run free and provide a doghouse if needed. Another program is our pet food pantry allowing us to provide food for pets for families in temporary crisis situations. This program helps the owners keep their pets . It also allows us to help feed colonies of feral cats and dogs . Another program is spaying and neutering family pets for owners that do not have the financial ability to do so thus reducing the numbers of unwanted and abandoned animals.

Our organization has changed so many lives of pets and owners in South Carolina . We do this is several ways. We are a foster based rescue and fosters save lives , in addition to having rescues in foster homes throughout South Carolina our network of volunteers and dedicated fosters allows us the to rapidly provide emergency medical care to injured stray or lost animals as well as assist with the medical care needed for family pets that have been seriously injured or sick that the pets families are unable to care for. While the primary goal is saving the animals a secondary benefit has repeatedly been witnessed by our organization. That is the impact that the rescued animals have had on their fosters and adopters and the positive changes the companion animals have brought to their lives.
