To fulfill its mandate the organization is working on the following projects:
• Pet Vet for Seniors Program: Provides low or no cost healthcare to qualifying senior citizens. Regular vaccinations and check-ups are offered through this program. Pet Vets for Seniors was first initiated in 2015. Beneficiaries are identified through using an assessment tool to determine the greatest need, which includes federal poverty guidelines and health status. Currently there are 5, 000 pets that have been identified to be under this program.
• K9 medical kits and trainings to first responders who with their canines are involved in search and rescue. Each kit is designed for the handler or medic to deliver lifesaving treatment to a wounded K-9 at the point of entry. This kit was developed by Dr. Rob Presley of Upstate Veterinary Specialists working with the North American Rescue (NAR). More than 100 K9 handlers have been trained in the use of this medical kit since it was developed in 2015. Using the items from the medical kits, handlers learn how to address common issues seen in working dogs, including traumatic injury, massive hemorrhage, gastric dilation volvulus (GDV), and heat stroke.

Testimony of Cynthia Reichardt
Winston is a Blue Pitbull and is 1 year, 10 months old. He became a part of our family when he was just 8 weeks old, so he truly is like a child to me. In November, Winston was shot in his front right leg by a neighbor when he escaped from his pen. The person who did this remains unidentified. When I noticed that day that he had hurt his leg, I assumed that he had gotten in a fight with another dog and maybe had broken his paw. I took him to a vet and the x-rays
