SC Equality

SC Equality is South Carolina’s leading statewide organization dedicated to securing full equality and dignity for LGBTQIA+ individuals and families. Founded on the belief that every person deserves to live authentically and without fear, we work across the state to build inclusive communities, advance fair policies, and amplify the voices of those too often marginalized.

At the heart of our work is strategic advocacy: we monitor legislation in Columbia and beyond, engage directly with lawmakers, and mobilize grassroots support to protect existing rights and expand new ones. From tracking local ordinances on nondiscrimination and conversion therapy bans to influencing state budget provisos that affect inclusive education, our policy team ensures that decision-makers hear the real-life stories of LGBTQIA+ South Carolinians.

Beyond the Statehouse, SC Equality champions community empowerment through leadership development and public education. Our Youth Action Council brings together high-school and college-aged advocates to identify emerging challenges, design peer-to-peer outreach campaigns, and shape solutions that resonate with young people. Meanwhile, our “Queer Joy” photojournalism and “Stories of Resilience” video series spotlight LGBTQIA+ individuals across South Carolina, fostering understanding and forging connections between diverse audiences.

SC Equality also partners with local organizations, businesses, and faith communities to host trainings on inclusive practices, cultivate safe spaces, and support LGBTQIA+-owned enterprises. Through annual events, educational workshops, and targeted communications campaigns, we amplify community voices and celebrate the vibrant contributions LGBTQIA+ South Carolinians make to our economy, culture, and civic life.
