South Carolina Jazz Foundation

A nonprofit organization

The South Carolina Jazz Foundation was created to support the SC Jazz Masterworks Ensemble and to build a network of support for jazz and jazz education in South Carolina. Its mission is to present jazz concerts at the highest artistic level and to support jazz and jazz education in South Carolina.

The South Carolina Jazz Foundation's performing group, the South Carolina Jazz Masterworks Ensemble, is comprised of many of the best jazz musicians and jazz educators in the southeast. The ensemble presents its five-concert season to sold out audiences at the Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College, as well as guest performances around the state including the South Carolina Jazz Festival. An 18-piece big band, the South Carolina Jazz Masterworks Ensemble performs music of the great Duke Ellington, Count Basie, and other historically important composers as well as the works of modern composers of merit. The ensemble also brings nationally and internationally-known jazz musicians to perform for South Carolina audiences, including saxophonists Joe Lovano and Chris Potter; vocalists Kurt Elling, Veronica Swift and Cyrille Aimee; trumpeter Sean Jones; pianist Kenny Barron; and trombonist Wycliffe Gordon among others.
