Saluda County First Steps

Collaborating with other entities, Saluda County First Steps helps families and caregivers prepare their children to succeed in school by maximizing public and private community resources to deliver, enhance and expand high-quality early childhood services.

Enhanced Early Education - works with targeted 4K and preschool students one-on-one or in small groups to promote mastery of literacy and math skills to ensure success in education.

Child Care Scholarships - We provide 5 SC DSS approved child care scholarships to at risk families in Saluda County.

Positive Parenting Program - We provide quality positive parenting classes for at risk parents to assist them with the skills necessary for successful parenting of young children through Saluda County School District, and other local agencies. Support program for parents with young children to learn practical stress management and communication skills; positive approaches to discipline; and gain a greater understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for their child(ren).

Library Literacy Program - in collaboration with Saluda County Library, we provide funds for books, special events and entertainers, and literacy in English and Spanish for literacy enrichment.

Childcare Training - We provide a minimum of 20 hours of SC Endeavors Certified child care training for all licensed providers in Saluda County.

Saluda County First Steps ensures that young children can have access to educational materials throughout the school year by providing our one-on-one and small group tutoring for at-risk children identified through assessments, and providing quality enhanced learning environments. We also promote literacy skills by giving all young children books throughout the year for their personal use at home with family. We encourage positive parenting strategies to promote family support for their child's early educational success.
