Testimonials

I am a product of a guardian's compassion. As a young child in foster care, being separated from my family was the hardest. When I first met my guardian I was guarded because I felt she was only there because she had to be, just like any other worker. I soon realized that she was not here for my mother, not my father, but for me. Many negative paths opened up for my future that I could have chosen. I used my past as a tool rather than a restraint. The love and empathy that the guardian showed gave me the fortitude to push through my adversity.

My case closed and I never saw my guardian again, but she unknowingly inspired me to pursue a career in the helping field. Fourteen years later I was given the opportunity to volunteer at Richland County CASA as an intern and a guardian. When I saw my former guardian, I realized that I had left an impression on her just as much she did I. Even though I was unable to express my appreciation as a seven year old, I revealed it standing there as a proud independent success willing to reciprocate the compassion she gave me."
