Palmetto Foundation for Prevention and Recovery

A nonprofit organization

About Us

Our mission is to prevent the youth from engaging in substance use, while inspiring them toward resilient social and emotional choices.

Now in existence since 2017, the Palmetto Foundation for Prevention and Recovery (PFPR) continues to strive to expand its programs and offerings to the community. The PFPR was founded in memory of Chase Loveless after his life was taken by the opioid epidemic at the age of 23. His death was our call to action, and no one should have to endure the unimaginable pain of burying their child.

Youth Empowerment Camps

Our free football and basketball camps served more than 70 at-risk youth per event. Beyond sports, these camps provide motivational talks, drug-prevention education, social-emotional guidance, and a safe space where young people feel valued and supported.

Mentoring Programs

Each week, our mentors meet with 28 at-risk students across four schools. Many of these young people have experienced trauma and rely on the consistency, encouragement, and a listening ear that our mentors provide. These relationships help strengthen confidence, resilience, and healthier decision-making.

Free Narcan Dispensers

We continue to maintain free Narcan dispensers throughout the Midlands, restocking them often and providing training materials, instructional videos, and overdose-prevention resources. Dispensers are located at the Palmetto Foundation office, Irmo Fire Department Headquarters, Harbison Gardens Apartments, Lovelace Family Medicine, Fairview Fire Department, Camp Cole, Foodshare SC, and Midlands Breakroom. So far, we’ve distributed 650 boxes of Narcan into the hands of our community—each one representing a life that could be saved.

APP: Apprenticeship Pipeline Partnership

Through our partnership with Lexington-Richland School District Five and the Midlands Mechanical Apprentice Coalition (MMAC), we connect high school graduates with high-demand trade careers. With paid on-the-job training, students gain practical experience, industry exposure, and meaningful pathways into fields such as HVAC, plumbing, pipe fitting, and sheet metal. This program provides structure, purpose, and opportunity for students who need it most.

NEW Achievement: High School Pre-Apprenticeship Class

Last month, we received official approval for a pre-apprenticeship high school course in partnership with District Five and MMAC. Enrollment begins next school year—an important milestone in expanding career pathways for students.

Community Presentations

Throughout the year, we shared Chase’s story and provided drug-prevention education at schools and community events, giving youth and families tools to recognize risks, seek help, and support those struggling.

The PFPR has provided school-wide assemblies and resources to help youth recognize the dangers of substance use and prevent overdose deaths. Students are deeply engaged as they listen to real-life testimony and hear the importance of decision-making and risks.
