Orangeburg County Council on Aging

Having started in 1972, The Orangeburg County Council on Aging serves as the gateway to Orangeburg County senior citizens to the vital community services that help them to stay healthy and independent. The purpose of our programs are to help the clients maintain independence and function to the best of their ability. We believe they are entitled to healthy , balanced diet, stimulating activities as well as fellowship and caring.

OCCOA provides programs and services to promote health, independence and well being to Orangeburg County senior citizens. Our home delivered meals and congregate meals provide a nutritious meal to over 300 seniors per day.
Our lively centers in Orangeburg, Branchville, Norway and Vance serve as hubs for evidence based disease prevention exercise programs, art classes , digital literacy classes and many more stimulating activities to encourage mental and physical health. These programs help them stay engaged socially and remain active in the community and offering a plethora of volunteer opportunities !

Our home delivered meals go to the most vulnerable population throughout our very large county reaching the most rural areas that are considered food deserts . These meals not only feed the clients but serve as a wellness and safety check for our home bound seniors.

Mrs. H lives alone and her nearest family member is 4 states away. She enjoys her warm meal each day and a nice visit with her volunteer meal delivery driver. She was discovered to have suffered a stroke when the driver arrived at her home and could not get her to open the door. Without our daily contact with our homebound seniors, we know Mrs. H would probably not made it much longer. She is very appreciative of our program and highly recommends it!!!
