Newberry County Humane Society

About this Organization

Our two major programs are providing affordable spay/neuter options through our website and fostering for rescues. In 2024, we fostered and sent 145 puppies/dogs to rescues. Under our Fix-a-Pit initiative, Pitbull and pit mixes are fixed for free. Last year, through our free and low-cost program, 200 animals were spayed/neutered. The impact is exponential. For every animal spayed/neutered, 6-8 more puppies or kittens are not born. Our foster/rescue program requires spay/neuter of all puppies (when age appropriate.) This prevents them from contributing to the alarming rate of overpopulation. Shelters are often full, which means animals are euthanized for space. Our programs are crucial to addressing this tragic, heart-breaking issue. We also provide pet food to local food banks, straw in the winter for outdoor pet enclosures, and support TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) of feral cat colonies.

We are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States or APSCA and receive no funds from them. Our organization relies solely on donations and fundraisers to fund the programs that serve our community animals and pet owners.
