Newberry County First Steps

A nonprofit organization

Newberry County First Steps partners with families, caregivers, and community organizations to strengthen early childhood systems and ensure all children enter school ready to reach their highest potential.

Newberry County First Steps supports children and families from prenatal care through kindergarten entry. This initiative aims to achieve meaningful outcomes by fostering partnerships between state and local public and private entities. By leveraging its ability to identify local needs, resources, and collaboration opportunities, the county-level partnerships are tailored to focus efforts and reach children where they live. Newberry County First Steps offers a variety of programs, including Parents as Teachers, Library-Based Literacy Program, Countdown to Kindergarten, Quality Counts, Reach Out and Read, and Child Care Training. Our organization collaborates with the community, volunteers, the School District, pediatricians, Head Start, retired educators, childcare providers, and city and county officials to ensure every child is healthy and prepared to succeed, fostering the motivation and engagement for lifelong learning.

Testimonials

"Our daughter is always excited to receive a new book from school. She "reads" it to us before she asks us to read it to her. The new stories encourage her to go back and look at the old ones. Many, many, thanks for encouraging children to love books." Preschool Parent on Library Based Program
