Newberry County Council on Aging

Newberry County Council on Aging is a private, non profit, charitable organization established in 1970 to provide necessary services for Newberry County Older Adults that will allow them to gracefully age in place. The mission of NCCOA is to holistically enhance the quality of life for Newberry County Senior Citizens through a comprehensive focal point service delivery system.

Newberry County Council on Aging, established in 1970 to provide programs/services to enhance the physical, mental and social well-being of Newberry County Older Adults. The agency offers programs/services such as Home Delivered Meals (Meals on Wheels), Senior Center/Congregate Dining, Adult Day Health Care, Non-Emergency Medical/Senior Center Transportation, Home Care and Evidence Based Exercise Classes. The agency was designated by Central Midlands Council of Governments as the Focal Point of Aging Services in Newberry County. The agency has a presence in the community and is the face of aging service provision in Newberry County.

NCCOA has been serving a home delivered meal participant since 2002. Her physician reported that she was losing sight in both eyes as a result of uncontrolled diabetes and high blood pressure. The home delivered meals program has enabled her to remain in her home and community and assisted this individual with keeping her diabetes and High Blood Pressure regulated by providing her a daily nutritious meal instead of the sugary junk foods she was formally consuming. This individual is now totally blind and is dependent on the meals program both for the nutritious meal and the social contact she receives from the agency meal delivery volunteers.
