Founded in 1993 as a project of the Gay and Lesbian Pride Movement, the Harriet Hancock Center is a vital resource for the LGBTQ+ community in Columbia, South Carolina and across the Midlands. Our mission is to provide education, social support, and resources related to the current and evolving concerns of LGBTQ+ people in South Carolina.

Through programs and initiatives, the Center addresses a wide range of community needs, including access to affirming healthcare information, mental health and legal resources, and opportunities for social connection. We serve LGBTQ+ youth, adults, families, and allies seeking community, support, and trusted information.

The Center hosts peer support groups, educational workshops, community gatherings, and youth programming throughout the year. Programs like First Sunday Supper, peer-led support groups, and youth-focused events create spaces where people can connect, share experiences, and build resilience together.

Today, the Harriet Hancock Center continues to serve as a welcoming hub where LGBTQ+ people, allies, and neighbors can connect, learn, and build community together.
