Food For Hungry Children
HUG partners with Feed the Hunger volunteers each year to pack and distribute thousands of packets of food, which contain grains, proteins, and vitamins. These are delivered to Christian children's homes, churches, and schools throughout Haiti. A donation of $1 a day feeds 15 children for a month.
Building Projects
Since the 2010 earthquake that destroyed thousands of homes and took thousands of lives, HUG has sent teams from the U.S. to work alongside Haitians to build or renovate structures: homes, churches, kitchens, schools, and even chicken coops. In 2016, teams were immediately deployed to help restore homes damaged by Hurricane Matthew. Current projects include a school building, family dwellings, and a church. Financial donations are necessary to purchase building supplies and to employ Haitian laborers.
Gospel Sharing and Biblical Training
Haitian Pastor Maxeau Antoine, with the assistance of HUG, trains and equips pastors and lay people for service in the Lord's work and provides materials and Bibles to members of various churches. In a country that has an intertwined religion of Catholicism and Voodoo, Protestantism has been on the rise in the last 10-20 years. Educating people about the Gospel and the saving grace of Jesus Christ is the life's work of Pastor Maxeau and Christian pastors across the country.
The Story of ChaCha Mountain - By Bruce T. Williams, CEO of Haiti Under God (HUG)
Pastor Maxeau Antoine, HUG's Haitian Ministry partner, had a vision to minister to the people of top of ChaCha Mountain (elevation 3000 feet) - which is only a few hours from Port-au-Prince as you head towards the Dominican Republic. This mountain rises up behind the Mission Church in the Valley of Hope that was dedicated in 2011.
Pastor Maxeau and his men made the three hour walk up ChaCha Mountain to minister to the people.
In April of 2011, of us made the trip up the mountain by truck, foot and mule. What we discovered was a dilapidated Church building with a congregation led by Pastor Paul and his son Julio.
We held a Church service with singing and praising our God. After the service, they brought us coffee, bread and boiled eggs. They took us to look at land adjacent to the current Church. The leaders of the Church and our group prayed over the land. I thought this would be the last time I saw this land and ChaCha Mountain.
God changed my heart and I was encouraged to go back. Donald Lyons, founder of HUG, and I went back up the Mountain to look at the land with Pastor Maxeau. The view is incredible on top of ChaCha and reminded me of a special Chapel at YMCA Camp Greenville called "Pretty Place". Donald and I took a road trip to Camp Greenville and met with the Camp Director. We decided at that point to move forward with building a Church on ChaCha.
A number of us have been going to Haiti since 2001. We were led by Wes Morgan (Wes passed away in 2007). This group is affectionately called the "Mud Dogs". The MD's started on the Church in 2013 and finished this labor of love in 2015. The Church was dedicated in June of 2015 with over 500 folks in the congregation for this 6 hour service.
"The completion of the Church is a victory…," says Pastor Maxeau. "When we first started working up on that mountain, we didn't think we would be where we are so fast. God is limitless. He gave the building so we can worship him."
We were told the congregation had been praying for over fifteen years for someone to build them a new Church. Praise the Lord!
Since that time, a number of teams from First Presbyterian Columbia, SC and F3 Columbia have joined the Mud Dogs on ChaCha.
Since the dedication of the Church in 2015, a school has been built that can accommodate 300 children. In addition, eleven homes will have been built along with updating a number of others. Our plans are to develop a Family Sustainability Program to include goats and chickens for each of the 60 families that attend the Church. In addition we plan to develop of agriculture program in conjunction with Partners in Agriculture.
