The Friends of Harbison State Forest is dedicated to preserving and promoting the recreational and educational aspects of Harbison State Forest, the Southeast's largest urban forest, through maintaining and developing the trail system in environmentally appropriate and sustainable ways. Additionally, we strive to educate users of the forest on how to enjoy an active life, responsibly and sustainably, and work to protect the Forest from commercial development through informational campaigns.

Harbison Trail Work and Other Projects:
Current Projects
Major renovations are being completed on the Front Parking Lot that has doubled the capacity and made improvements to the amenities needed for the recreational use of the forest. The Grand Opening is 23 April 2026.

With the help of RCCC, the Lost Creek Trail rerouting has been taking on with additional kiosks and signage needed to help with the users experience when using the trails. This was completed during the second quarter of 2025.

Through our own volunteer mechanisms and equipment purchases, including our own "Trail Days" the trails have regular maintenance completed to sustain the system.
