Our mission is to help families experiencing homelessness in their quest to achieve sustainable independence. Family Promise of the Midlands (FPM) partners with congregations in the Midlands, individuals, families, other social service agencies, foundations, and businesses to provide solutions for families who have children and are facing a housing crisis.
We accomplish our mission through these five core services:
Homelessness Prevention: Stopping families from experiencing homelessness by preventing eviction and providing additional services as needed. Providing financial assistance to families in danger of losing their homes or help them move into new housing
Temporary Shelter: Through our model with Partner Congregations, utilizing various community partnerships or finding creative housing solutions, we support families experiencing homelessness by providing temporary shelter and case management services
Transitional Housing: Supportive, temporary housing that serves to bridge the gap from homelessness to permanent housing
Stabilization Services: Our Continuing the Promise program ensures that graduating families remain stable in their housing, thus reducing the recidivism rate back to homelessness
Tomorrow's Promise: Provides financial assistance to families at risk of eviction or facing barriers to moving to safe housing. Supports children and youth with enrichment activities such as athletics, music and art. Fosters community and resilence through family engagement events including financial literacy workshops, professional development, and social activities
Dear Family Promise:
As I write this letter, my eyes get watery thinking of how good the whole Family Promise has been to me and my daughter. I say Thank You!! But that is an understatement. The words "thank you" do not express how I feel. It goes beyond that. Family Promise chose me and my daughter. We didn't choose them. I'm so thankful for being given a house where we called it home. Given the opportunity to stand on my own two feet without being judged on how I got into the situation. I'm thankful for them allowing others to come in and show love, not when needed but unexpected.
Family Promise has allowed me to gain stability of my mental health, staying focused on myself and my daughter. Family Promise stood by me when I didn't know how to stand. Helping me to set goals and meet them, for which I thought was impossible. Family Promise has made me realize good people do exist and that love can come from anywhere.
I needed /wanted shelter, but we received so much more. Family Promise helped me to gain strength I didn't know I had and allowed me to let go of some things I was still holding onto (fear.) Family Promise helped me to give back what I took from my daughter, peace and space. They allowed me to experience things that I've only seen on television and taught me things I was never shown before.
Family Promise has opened the door for me to have another shot at doing it right. But, also, Family Promise and God is the reason why I'm still standing.
Thank you,
T.

What does Family Promise mean to my family and me?
Family Promise has done so much for my family! When I first moved to South Carolina I was completely lost. I wanted to get my Bachelor's, however there was never any time to get it due to multiple reasons. I did not have a secure place to stay, and my children and I were staying in a motel.
When I met the staff of Family Promise, they were more than willing to help me find suitable housing. After I secured the housing, they went above and beyond by taking my family and I on trips such as musicals and plays that otherwise my children and I would not have been able to experience. They also made sure my children and I have something to look forward to like gift cards and other gifts through the time I have been with them.
If there is a time I needed groceries I always have someone either giving me a store gift card, bringing meals, or groceries to my home to ensure we are eating properly. My daughter did not have anything to look forward to, but because of Family Promise, she was able to experience going to an away summer camp. This is something I wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise. She can cherish those memories of making friends at the camp.
Anytime I have an issue with a personal problem of some kind, they are always right there. They are truly like part of my family now. We can discuss any topic, and I know it stays confidential...
