St. Luke's Episcopal Church / Fresh Start Ministry

A nonprofit organization

Fresh Start offers the homeless and people living in poverty a fresh start by helping them transition from hardship to sustainable living. We promote services that offer an opportunity for a healthier life. The resources offered by our program enhance an independent lifestyle for our clients while promoting community and self-worth.

Foundational services include a food pantry, laundry services, shower facilities and a clothing closet. Additionally, free blood pressure checks, HIV screening and clients service referrals to appropriate support agencies are provided. One of the program's goals is to move clients from enablement too empowerment. Planned enhanced services include resume writing, job search skills, marketing oneself, dressing for success, volunteerism, and mentorship. Fresh Start plans to not only serve the indigent and homeless, but serve as a resource for the community at large, to include two of the state's historically black colleges and universities, Allen University and Benedict College, located within 3 blocks of the Saint Luke's Episcopal Church. Opportunities to assist with the needs of other students will be addressed.
