It’s a place to Gather, Connect and Grow.

Crossbuck Play Space at Rawls Creek Park was developed as a youth-guided, community-built inclusive play space designed to welcome children, teens, adults, and seniors of all abilities. It is a place where young people lead, families gather, and everyone belongs—side-by-side. Extensive work has been done by the community to provide their input on the most effective way to incorporate a play space at Rawls Creek Park where there is already a vibrant gathering. Rawls Creek Park currently supports skateboarding, gardening, dog walking, arts, sports, and family activities. Recent additions have increased attendance and nurtured new communities, yet the park holds even greater potential. Crossbuck Play Space will expand that potential by creating a fully inclusive, intergenerational play space that serves Irmo residents and visitors from across the Midlands. 

Designed for shared experiences rather than separated accommodations, the play space will include:

· Safe, accessible play for people of all abilities

· Areas for active play, quiet retreat, and creativity

· Teen-friendly elements that encourage ongoing engagement

· Shaded seating and gathering areas for caregivers and grandparents

· Nature-based features that invite exploration and imagination

Rather than defining users by age or ability, Crossbuck Play Space brings people together—building empathy, confidence, and connection through play. 

This private/public partnership illustrates the commitment of the community to enhance Rawls Creek Park with the addition of a play space to provide residents and visitors a safe place to gather.
