Congaree Riverkeeper

We work to protect and improve water quality, wildlife habitat, and recreation on the Congaree, Lower Saluda, and Lower Broad Rivers through advocacy, education, and enforcement of environmental laws.

What we do:

ADVOCATE
Volunteer River & Stream Cleanups - Annually we remove thousands of pounds of trash and debris from local waterways.
Water Quality Monitoring - We conduct regular sampling, and help coordinate the Midlands Rivers Coalition (HowsMySCRiver.org) monitoring program.
Legislative & Regulatory Work - We review and comment on permits, participate in the regulatory process, and advocate on Local, State, & Federal policies that will impact our rivers.

EDUCATE
We regularly speak to local community organizations, school groups, youth groups, businesses, and elected officials about our rivers, the issues they face, and what we can do to protect them. We reach thousands of citizens through our website, newsletter, social media, and other outreach activities. We engage with local governments and other groups to provide educational programing.

ENFORCE
We enforce environmental laws and hold polluters accountable.
