City Year Columbia

A nonprofit organization

City Year is an education-focused nonprofit organization that works to help keep students in school and on track to graduate by uniting teams of different backgrounds, young AmeriCorps members for a year of full-time service in schools. Evidenced-based research shows that by focusing on attendance, behavior, and course performance, corps members serve as tutors, mentors and role models who are uniquely able to help students and schools succeed.

All funds help support the work of our City Year AmeriCorps members as they mentor, coach, and support identified students in Richland and Lexington school districts. Our Corps members focus on improved attendance, behavior, and course work. Their service also helps decrease the drop out ratio of public-school children...keeping them on track to graduate high school, enter college or join workforce development programs.

Testimonials

"After taking a City Year School Tour, I recognized that overcoming a poor education is almost impossible these days, but seeing how the AmeriCorps members help those off track students gain the greatest opportunity for future success is priceless".....Happ Lathrop, President, South Carolina Golf Association.
