We are a nonpartisan grassroots movement comprised of a diverse group of South Carolinians who are uniting under a common cause: to make elections more fair with instant runoff voting and other electoral reforms.

Because that's what our system is supposed to be about. We live in a representative democracy, but does this system produce representatives who truly represent us? Sometimes, but not often enough.

Systemic problems need systemic solutions. Solutions that:

• Increase voter turnout
• Increase representation
• Decrease polarization
• Eliminate the spoiler effect/vote splitting

Voter participation is a real problem in SC with only 77% of registered voters voting in the 2024 General Election (and that was a presidential year!). So why don't they vote? When you ask them, the answer is usually that their vote doesn't matter.

What is Instant Runoff/Ranked Choice Voting?

Every dollar that you donate to Better Ballot SC will go towards voter education and the sustainability and longevity of our organization. Education is the cornerstone of all we do. Without information, voters cannot make informed decisions. This primary season we are raising awareness of the candidates on the ballot, deep dives into how the system impacts those races, and reforms that can fix the system.

We kicked off our educational campaign even before filing for office had closed by hosting almost 30 candidates from across the state and the political spectrum at the March No Kings Rally. We're continuing our educational campaign with a weekly social media series on primary races, polling, and more. We also host screenings of documentaries to underscore the impact of these reforms in communities who have enacted them.
