Our beautiful state stands out for many reasons, and here’s one we’re particularly grateful for: South Carolina leads the nation in supporting military-connected children and emphasizes bridging gaps for children facing relocation and deployment, notably through the Purple Star School program! 

Military children change schools 6-9x between Kindergarten and high school graduation and face many other challenges few of their peers do, including the stress of parents deploying. In this moment, as our nation is calling upon military families in record numbers, military children need and deserve support. We’re raising funds to add another desperately needed member to our SC-based team so that we can be meet the need.

MCEC supports all military-connected children by educating, advocating, & collaborating to resolve education challenges associated with the military lifestyle. Our goals are to esnure military-connected children's academic, social, & emotional needs are recognized, supported & appropriate responses provided; parents & other supporting adults are informed & empowered to ensure military-connected children are college, workforce & life-ready; a strong community is committed to military-connected children thriving.

We take a multi-faceted approach to helping military-connected children mitigate the challenges associated with a military lifestyle. Our programs and services include:
💜Student 2 Student® welcomes new students, creates a positive environment, supports educational opportunities, builds connections & eases transitions.
💜Workshops, webinars & podcasts empower parents to be their child(ren)'s best advocate.
💜Tell Me a Story encourages parent/child interactions & early literacy.
💜Military Student Consultants provide information, direction & guidance for military-connected families, educators, community members & installation reps.
💜Training for professionals to address the challenges facing military-connected children.
💜Community Coordinators, liaisons to local & regional military communities, provide resources and training.

The MCEC Team in the Midlands works with the SC Dept of Veterans Affairs & SC Dept of Education to conduct professional development & provide individualized services & technical assistance to school districts to support military- & veteran-connected students.
MCEC conducted TMAS events at Shaw & Sumter, provided Professional Development & Purple Star School support for Kershaw County SD, & hosted TMAS & parent workshop events in Richland, Kershaw, Sumter, & Lexington Counties.
