Edisto Habitat for Humanity, Inc.

Edisto Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families in Orangeburg County and the surrounding areas to build homes, community, and hope. We bring people together to improve many residents' substandard housing conditions. Habitat family partners purchase the house with a zero to low-interest mortgage, which helps to foster generational wealth and opens doors to job, educational, and other opportunities. 

In February 2026, Edisto Habitat celebrated the groundbreaking of the 100th Home Block.

The Brush with Kindness Ramp/Repair Program is designed to ensure that our residents can safely access their homes while also supporting our Aging in Place program, which aims to keep older adults in their homes for as long as possible, thereby decreasing the need for new housing. Since launching the program in 2022, more than 60 ramps have been completed, with several others to be built.  

We provide disaster awareness, preparation, and recovery services and are in the process of repairing homes in Orangeburg and two in Bamburg County that were destroyed by Hurricane Helene.

In addition to providing direct aid, we work closely with partners to share our expertise and advocate for those impacted in Orangeburg County and the surrounding area. We maintain strong relationships with recovery organizations and regularly apply for grants to secure resources in preparation for future disasters.

Testimonials

Habitat for Humanity has completed 98 newly constructed homes in Orangeburg since 1991. We will begin our 100th home in the fall of 2025.
