Our family loves Happy Wheels!

We first learned of this amazing program called Happy Wheels through Facebook during Midland's Gives, the very giving campaign we are promoting. We loved the idea of a program that exists to bring a little happiness to kids and their families who are facing less than happy times.

Then, we had the unexpected opportunity to be blessed by this program firsthand. On Monday, February 6, 2023, a day after our ten-year-old son Joshua was admitted with acute anemia due to a nasty stomach bacteria and resulting ulcers, the Happy Wheels cart showed up outside our room. On March 15, during a follow-up appointment with our GI doctor, we realized that something concerning was going on in Joshua's abdomen. A couple days after being admitted, we received the dreaded news that our normally healthy and strong son had cancer, specifically Burkitt Lymphoma. While his overall prognosis was good, progress was painfully slow. In September of that year he was able to ring the bell for completing his treatments and has remained cancer free!

Nevertheless back then, Joshua looked forward to Mondays because he knew that is when the Happy Wheels Cart came around! He loved being able to inquire about what's new on the cart and examine the shelves to find just the right treat for the week! Kids of all ages are in the hospital and Happy Wheels aims to have items on the cart for each age group. The Volunteers are always cheerful and interested in how he is doing, which is such an encouragement to us!

We have been blessed with a support community that is not simply local or national, but global. If we had $10 for every person who has reached out with a message of encouragement and support, we could pay forward some serious blessings to some kids (and their families) who could use a pick-me-up, so that's our goal.
