$10,000 Goal

The Carolina Peace Pole Project is creating a symbolic public art installation at Saluda Riverwalk. The 7-foot “Persimmon Peace Pole,” by local artist Olga Yukhno, tells of resilience through three symbolic trees: persimmon (perseverance), ginkgo (wisdom), and cherry blossom (renewal). At its center, "May Peace Prevail on Earth" appears in 8 languages. Included is a persimmon tree grown in Columbia from a seed of the Mother Persimmon Tree that survived the Hiroshima bombing. This living witness to history will be planted next to the hand-sculpted ceramic and glass mosaic “Persimmon Peace Pole,” complemented by an interpretive sign, bench, and stepping stones. With over $15,000 raised through community contributions, and City of Columbia’s approval, we're seeking $10,000 more for the complementary elements and additional artist support. This project represents local investment in peace education and public art that will inspire dialogue and reflection for generations.
