The South Carolina Railroad Museum has been a staple to South Carolina's Fairfield County since 1984. The organization's mission is the preservation and interpretation of railroading in South Carolina as well as the historic granite industry that the railroad originally served.

When visitors first arrive at the South Carolina Railroad Museum they are able to take a self-guided tour through our static train display featuring a 100+ year old business car, caboose, baggage car and post office car with the impressive views of a steam locomotive just steps behind them. Our display Gallery features hundreds of original train artifacts, photographs and stories of South Carolina railroads. Then, after presenting their tickets to the conductor, visitors board one of the operating trains for a ten-mile round trip on our railroad. The journey takes visitors past the remains of sharecropper homes & industrial remains of the local granite industry, while volunteers narrate the area's history, the story of the original Rockton & Rion Railroad, and so much more. The South Carolina Railroad Museum offers regularly scheduled trains in the summer months as well as specialty events including BBQ Dinner Trains, Eggspress Bunny Trains, Pumpkin Patch Trains and Ride with Santa Trains.
