Seeking to put God's love into action, Sumter Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Facilitating hope for homeownership to those with low to moderate income in Sumter since 1987! Habitat for Humanity, Inc. Sumter, S.C., a tax-exempt. 501(C)(3) organization is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We are an independent, local non-profit organization that furthers the Habitat for Humanity mission. We coordinate all facets of fundraising and home building in our service area.

As we participate in Midlands Gives 2026, we have 5 future homeowners in the program working towards affordable homeownership and hope to have an additional 2 added by the summer! Our goal is to by the fall have at least 3 of these participants sign their mortgages and move into their safe, affordable homes.

With financial backing and volunteer assistance from partnering churches, organizations, businesses, and individuals from the local community, Sumter Habitat for Humanity is proud to have constructed 131 single-family homes and served over 140 families since 1987.

We use three main criteria to select families to partner with in our homeownership program:
1. The need for safe, decent, and affordable housing.
2. The ability to pay an affordable mortgage.
3. The willingness to partner with our ministry in building their own house and the houses of their future neighbors.
